A
meeting was held on 5 November 2025 at the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission
(BAEC) Headquarters in Agargaon regarding the Science and Technology Policy of
Bangladesh. The session was chaired by Mr. Anwar Hossain, Secretary, Ministry
of Science and Technology, Government of Bangladesh.
Prominent
scientists and engineers from BAEC attended the meeting and exchanged their
views and experiences on various sectors of science and technology from a
national perspective.
Professor
Dr. Mohammad Quamruzzaman, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic
Engineering (EEE) and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering,
represented the World University of Bangladesh (WUB) at the meeting. In his
remarks, he highlighted the significance of semiconductor technology and
discussed the country’s only VLSI Laboratory located at the Atomic Energy
Research Establishment (AERE) in Savar. He explained that the laboratory was
established to contribute to the development of integrated circuit design and
fabrication and was open for use by academicians, teachers, students, and
researchers.
However,
due to the lack of adequately trained manpower, the fabrication section of the
laboratory could not operate efficiently and was eventually shut down.
During
the meeting, Professor Quamruzzaman also met Dr. M. Shawkat Akbar, Director of
the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project and Chairman of BAEC. Dr. Akbar was invited
to deliver a seminar on the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP), and he kindly agreed
to present the talk on 12 November 2025 at the World University of Bangladesh
(WUB).
