Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Jalil
DEAN, Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Message
It is with great pride and a deep sense of commitment that I welcome you to the Faculty of Arts & Humanities of the World University of Bangladesh (WUB). As one of the most vibrant and intellectually dynamic faculties of the university, we are dedicated to nurturing critical thinkers, ethical professionals, and socially responsible graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to the global community. The Faculty of Arts & Humanities at WUB comprises four distinguished departments: Department of Law, Department of English, Department of Media Studies and Journalism, and Department of General Education. Each department plays an essential role in fostering an academic environment grounded in creativity, analytical inquiry, and a forward-looking approach to education.
Our faculty is firmly rooted in Outcome-Based Education (OBE), a globally recognized pedagogical framework that places student learning outcomes at the heart of curriculum design, teaching methodology, and assessment practices. All four departments have meticulously developed their program curricula following OBE principles to ensure that students not only acquire knowledge but also develop the skills, competencies, and values demanded by the competitive job market of the 21st century. This strong alignment with OBE ensures that our graduates emerge as capable individuals who are prepared to excel in practical, real-world environments.
The strength of our faculty lies in its highly qualified, dedicated, and diverse group of teachers. Our academic staff members hold degrees from renowned government universities in Bangladesh and prestigious international institutions. Approximately 15 to 25 percent of our faculty members possess Ph.D. degrees from both local and foreign universities, demonstrating our commitment to research excellence and academic leadership. Their broad academic experience, extensive research portfolios, and strong industry exposure enrich the learning environment and ensure that students receive world-class guidance in every course they take.
In all our departments, we emphasize a strong connection between academic learning and the marketplace. Our programs are designed to be hands-on, practical, and market-oriented, enabling students to develop essential professional competencies alongside their academic knowledge. Whether it is the rigorous legal training provided by the Department of Law, the linguistic and literary expertise cultivated in the Department of English, the real-world media exposure offered by the Department of Media Studies and Journalism, or the intellectual foundation delivered by the Department of General Education—each program aims to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and professional expectations. We want our graduates to be confident, skilled, employable, and ready to stand out as leaders in their respective fields.
A defining feature of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities is our dedication to ensuring equitable access to high-quality education. WUB is deeply committed to supporting talented students regardless of their financial background. As part of this commitment, the university provides generous scholarships for students who demonstrate academic brilliance despite economic challenges. These scholarships aim to empower ambitious learners, enabling them to pursue higher education without financial barriers. We are proud that many of our scholarship recipients have gone on to excel academically and professionally, proving the transformative power of educational opportunity.
Another priority of our faculty is fostering gender inclusivity and women’s empowerment. We actively encourage female students to pursue higher education in all our departments. To support this, we offer specialized scholarship opportunities for the female students and create an environment that values their academic aspirations and personal growth. Our goal is to ensure that young women can confidently pursue careers in law, media, language studies, education, and public service—contributing to national development and global competitiveness.
Beyond academic instruction, the Faculty of Arts & Humanities places great emphasis on moral development, communication skills, digital literacy, and leadership qualities. Our academic programs are supplemented with seminars, workshops, career guidance sessions, legal literacy campaigns, literary events, media production training, and interdisciplinary activities that broaden students’ perspectives. We strive to cultivate graduates who not only excel professionally but also embody ethical values, social commitment, and a genuine desire to contribute positively to society.
At the same time, we are invested in promoting a vibrant research culture. Faculty members and students are encouraged to engage in scholarly research, publish in national and international journals, and participate in conferences and academic debates. This intellectually rich environment helps students to develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills, which are essential in today’s knowledge-driven world.
The Faculty of Arts & Humanities is more than a collection of departments—it is a community built on mutual respect, intellectual curiosity, and shared goals. We value diversity, cultural expression, and academic freedom. We believe that the humanities hold a unique power to shape human understanding, empathy, and creativity. In a rapidly changing world driven by technology, economics, and globalization, the humanities remain essential for preserving the values that make societies resilient and humane.
As the Dean, I am honored to lead this inspiring faculty and work with colleagues and students who share a vision for excellence. We remain committed to continuous improvement, innovation in teaching and learning, and strengthening our contributions to national and global advancement.
I warmly welcome prospective students, parents, partners, and well-wishers to explore our academic offerings and join us in our mission to create knowledgeable, skilled, and ethically grounded graduates. Together, we aspire to shape a future enriched by wisdom, creativity, justice, and human dignity.
