WUB Celebrates World Pharmacists Day 2026 with Emphasis on Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures

The Department of Pharmacy at World University of Bangladesh (WUB), in collaboration with The Pharmacy Club (WUPC), celebrated World Pharmacists Day 2026 with a vibrant and inspiring programme under the global theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures” on October 3, 2026. The celebration aimed to highlight the vital contributions of pharmacists to healthcare, promote awareness of the safe and rational use of medicines, and inspire pharmacy students to take an active role in shaping the future of healthcare.

The programme commenced with a rally, where students, faculty members, and guests participated to raise awareness about the responsible use of medicines and the evolving role of pharmacists in global health. Following the rally, WUB students presented an energetic flash mob in front of the Main Gate, which drew the attention of the university community and added enthusiasm to the celebration.

A discussion ceremony was subsequently held with the participation of distinguished guests and speakers. Prof. Dr. M. Nurul Islam, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh attended the programme as the Chief Guest. Mr. Mohammad Hanif, Senior General Manager, The Ibn Sina Pharmaceutical Industry PLC, delivered the keynote address. Professor Dr. AQM Shafiul Azam, Dean of Academic Affairs and Research were also present at the programme.

The discussion also featured Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Tanvir, Business Development Manager, Bangladesh – Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech, China, and President of the WUB Alumni Association; and Saimum Islam, Senior Front Line Sales Manager, Oncology Division, Beacon Pharmaceuticals PLC, who shared their professional experiences and insights with the students. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Md. Harun-Or-Rashid, Head of the Department of Pharmacy, WUB. Distinguished Deans, the Joint Registrars, faculty members, alumni, students, and invited guests were also present at the programme.

Speakers emphasized the growing responsibilities of pharmacists in ensuring medication safety, promoting rational medicine use, supporting patients, and contributing to a more effective and sustainable healthcare system. The celebration concluded with a colourful cultural programme, featuring spirited dance and artistic performances by the students.

Dr. Samira Karim, Program Convener, expressed her gratitude to the university authorities, distinguished guests, faculty members, alumni, and students for their valuable participation and contribution to the successful celebration.

The World Pharmacists Day 2026 celebration at WUB served as an inspiring platform for students to connect academic learning with professional aspirations and to recognize the significant role pharmacists play in building healthier communities and a healthier future.
