Md. Abdul Latif Mahmud Represents WUB at Workshop titled “Identifying the Challenges and Opportunities of Green Employment in the Tourism and Hospitality Sector”

A workshop titled “Identifying the Challenges and Opportunities of Green Employment in the Tourism and Hospitality Sector” was held on Tuesday, 29 May 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Conference Room of Parjatan Bhaban, Dhaka.

The event was jointly organized by Aspire to Innovate (a2i) and the Bangladesh Tourism Board, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders from the tourism and hospitality sector. The objective of the workshop was to explore the concept of green employment and examine how it can support the industry’s transition toward sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.

Mr. Abu Tahir Muhammad Zaber, CEO of the Bangladesh Tourism Board, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of adopting eco-friendly approaches in tourism and emphasized that promoting green employment is essential for achieving sustainable growth in the sector.

Among the notable contributors was Md. Abdul Latif Mahmud, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the World University of Bangladesh. Speaking during the group discussions, Mr. Mahmud identified critical issues such as the lack of green skills and environmental awareness within the industry, along with the limited use of renewable energy. He stressed the need for well-designed initiatives to enhance capacity and create meaningful green job opportunities.

The workshop featured engaging group discussions where participants—including academics, industry leaders, policymakers, and development partners—collaborated to identify current challenges, policy gaps, and actionable strategies to promote green employment. The session concluded with a collective commitment to align Bangladesh’s tourism and hospitality industry with the broader goals of sustainable development.
