Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury was born in 1st January in his parental home in Dulipara (Rasulpur) village of Comilla Sadar Upazilla. He is the only male child of his parents. When he was only three his father Ansar Ali died. Mr. Ansar Ali was a political activist and practiced homeopathy in his last leg of survival. But, Mr. Choudhury is the contribution today by his mother Amena Begum, who was his friend philosopher and guide. She passed away in 2005. Mr. Choudhury Started his primary education at his maternal uncle's home though a bigger part of the primary education he took in the Thirapur-par primary school and college under Comilla Municipality. Then he got himself admitted in class five in Comilla Zila school. He stood first in school and obtained scholarship in class 5, 8 and SSC. In the Higher Secondary examination from Comilla Victoria College under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Comilla, Mr. Choudhury stood first in the first division. He secured first class in both B.Com (Hon’s) and M.Com examinations from the University of Dhaka. Then he took his MBA from Manchester Business School with excellent result and obtained his PhD degree from the London. Apart from all those, Dr. Choudhury was a senate member, a member of the finance committee, provost of Salimullah Muslim Hall and Proctor of the University of Dhaka. During his stay in England, he was a member of the Library management Committee of Manchester University and was also secretary of the Bangladesh Society of Manchester. Professor Choudhury was also the founder of some consultancy firms and was associated with research. He was president and or general secretary of many professional bodies, including National Commerce Association and National Management Association. Professor Choudhury started formal teaching before he took his M.Com degree. After his Mcom results, he joined the faculty of commerce at the University of Dhaka as a Lecturer. And as a Lecturer of the DU, he joinged the war of Liberation in 1971. Side by side he edited a Weekly called ‘Bangladesh’. Moreover he took guerilla Training at Dehradun to participate in the liberation war. During the last two month of the war of liberation, he was the chief of the eastern command of the Mujib Bahini. Dr. Choudhury is first and foremost a teacher. Besides Dhaka University he also taught at the Bayero University in Nigeria, where he was senate member, head of department and academic dean. During his tenure at the Bayero University, Dr. Choudhury also was a part time teacher of the Ahmedu Bello University. He also worked as a part time teacher in many universities at home. He was chairman of the management department of the Dhaka University, founder director of the evening MBA program of the Dhaka University, editor of the Journal of Business Studies, and was a member of the editorial board of the journal several time. He has been actively participating in responsible roles in social reformation/transformation side by side with his teaching and research works. Apart from research based creative writings, he writes columns in the dailies, supervises M.phil, M.B.A, and PhD students. Before joining the WUB, he was the founder chairman of the Management Information Systems department in DU. At present he is holding the position of an advisor of the National Freedom Fighter Council, a member of the syndicate of Comilla University. He was instrumental in establishing the Comilla University. |
